Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second largest airport and the most efficient single-runway airport in the world. It serves more than 228 destinations in 74 countries for 44 million passengers a year on short and long-haul point-to-point services. It is also a major economic driver for the UK generating around 24,000 on-airport jobs, a further 85,000 jobs nationally through related activities and a £5.3 billion contribution to GDP.
We’ve been fully involved in the Gatwick Meet the Buyers programme since 2002, and are pleased to be joint sponsors once again this year. Gatwick participate in regional activities through active membership of economic groups and partnerships, working together to build a strong local supply chain; boost business and to strengthen opportunities for employment and skills development. In 2016, we spent 139.4m with local and regional suppliers (East and West Sussex, Surrey and Kent), reflecting our active focus on improving opportunities for local business to supply to Gatwick.
The Gatwick Diamond Initiative is a business led economic partnership free to businesses. Business leaders work with the local authorities and government agencies to address the economic needs of the area to ensure it is a world class place to do business.
